Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon japonicas), sometimes called Monkey Grass, is a smaller ornamental grass that is a dwarf cousin of the family of larger ornamental Liriopes (Lily Turf).Compared to Liriopes that can grow up to two feet tall, Mondo grass will top out at 6-8 inches tall. The dark green evergreen blades of this grass are roughly 1/8 inch wide. In early summer this grass will produce small white flower spikes that will give way to berries in autumn. This decorative grass is great to use in the landscape along walkways, driveways, rock gardens, groundcovers, or under densely branched trees such as Oaks and Magnolias. For a seamless planting, space your Mondo Grass 6-8 inches apart from plant center to plant center. For space between plantings, plant them 1'+ apart. Caring for Mondo grass can be extremely easy. Make sure to remove any weeds that may sprout and be sure to keep the area moist in the dry season.Ships as 18 individually potted plants with soil from the Alabama Gulf Coast. Not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival. This plant is unavailable to ship to Hawaii and Alaska.

  • CLUMPING DWARF: Mondo Grass is perennial grass with dark foliage and produces white, but very small, flowers and berries during the early summer. This is a dwarf variety only reaching 4-6" in height and width unlike the larger grasses such as liriope.
  • VERSATILE: This decorative grass is great to use in the landscape along walkways, driveways, rock gardens, groundcovers, or under densely branched trees such as Oaks and Magnolias.
  • MAINTENANCE: If you are using this grass for your lawn there is little that is required to maintain it. You'll want to remove any weeds that appear and keep it dry in the dry season... that's it! Divide clumps every three years if grown as standalone plants.
  • USDA ZONES: Plants by Mail Mondo Grass ground covers thrives in USDA zones 6a-10a and is drought tolerant once it has been established. Until it has been, make sure that the soil of your Mondo Grass remains moist. Whether you plant in full sun, full shade or anything in between this grass will remain healthy.
